Team Michigan wins 2023 Eastern High School Championships (EHSC)
24 Alpine Ski Racing Athletes representing 12 Michigan High Schools won the 2023 EHSC held at Mittersill NH March 3-5, 2023 hosted by the Franconia Ski Club. Team Michigan (TM) included 12 men and 12 women on the team representing 7 Central Division US Ski and Snowboard Clubs (US) in Michigan. 123 women and 131 Men from 12 states were represented at the EHSC.
The TM athletes qualified for the EHSC by competing in US scored events at various venues primarily in the US Central Division and racing head to head at Nub’s Nob.
The race format at the EHSC included Slalom and Giant Slalom (SL, GS) US scored events. The athletes were seeded by each state's ranks for the 1st run and used the flip 30 format for the second runs (1st place from the 1st run runs 30th for second run). Each run place result was scored with the top 6 ranked athletes per state team.
Team Michigan Women sputtered a bit to start the competition by finishing 5th in the 1st run of GS on Friday. The Women came back strong by winning the next run of GS and then sweeping each run of SL on Saturday including placing 5 in the top 10 of the 1st SL run.
TM Women won with a total of 331 points (low score place points wins)
Vermont and New Hampshire tied for 2nd with 484. Maine was 4th with 633.

The TM Men started with a strong SL performance Saturday winning each run.
New Hampshire put on a late charge in the Sunday GS events winning each run but it was not enough to catch up to the Michigan lead in SL

Olivia Hutchins of Wisconsin won the women's overall (4 runs) with Michigan's Olivia Lunseth and Marley Spence in 2nd and 3rd on the podium at the end of the competition
Sam Dehlin won the men’s overall title with Nolan Walkerdine in 7th to lead Michigan.
